Scarcity of fodders during winter season is a very big problem for Yak and Mithun farmers. Feed scarcity problem is further accelerated by the rapidly deteriorating natural resources caused by population pressure, deforestation, etc. Upto 25% of Yak’s body weight reduces due to scarcity of feed/fodder during winter season. Traditional methods of feed block preparation are not health benefit. RuTAG IIT Guwahati developed two models of feed block machine i.e. a) Hydraulic feed block machine and b) Manual feed block machine. Both the machines are portable, easy to assemble and easy to transport in hilly areas. Raw material with added nutrition is compressed by a hydraulic jack inside a cylinder. Briquettes can also be produced with the help of this machine.
